The benefits of quitting smoking

Quitting smoking can have many benefits for you, people close to you and your community. This includes:

  • Improving your physical health
  • Improving your mental wellbeing
  • Reducing the risk of harm to people that you smoke around
  • Saving money
  • Protecting the environment

By quitting smoking, you only have to wait as little as 20 minutes before you can start to see some benefits as your pulse returns to normal. After 8 hours, your oxygen levels will be recovering and after only 72 hours breathing will start to feel easier!

The cost of smoking

Not only does smoking affect your body, it can also affect the people around you and cause financial issues.

Our vision for a smoke-free Leicester

“A smoke free Leicester – to make Leicester smoke free by 2030”

Smoking rates in Leicester have declined year on year and a smoke free generation now feels within reach. We are committed to reducing the harms of smoking and protecting you from tobacco.

We recognise that we can’t do this alone, and we will continue to work with you to raise awareness of the harms of smoking and to have the confidence to hold conversations about smoking.

Together we can encourage more smokers in our community to make a quit attempt year on year.
