We hold a busy and welcoming, action-packed session with you and your toddler in mind on Wednesday mornings. We have many child-friendly resources ready for you to play with your child and to take home any of the products you have both made for the fridge door. We believe the best exposure for a young child is to be with other young children (and their mothers) responding to them and to be part of a wider community of caring individuals.

Mums come from the neighbourhood and so meet other mothers they may only have passed in the street. There’s a great buzz and much effort is put into everyone making friends and sharing their kindness and interest in each other. Make sure we have space available before attending for the first time.

Day Care – Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland

Companionship and support for independent living

There are lots of reasons why people join one of our groups. We find that the main reasons are because they want to

Socialise with other local people – because social interaction is important to your wellbeing

Have a few hours away from home – which prevents loneliness and gives more structure to the week

Enjoy a hot meal – when perhaps cooking at home is too much effort or eating alone reduces your appetite

Participate in group activities – which otherwise you wouldn’t get to try and which help maintain mental agility

Get out in the community – with trips to the theatre, museums and local attractions as well as meals in local restaurants and pubs

Maintain your independence – by getting just enough of the right support so that you aren’t dependent on someone else and can avoid a move to residential care

Allow a carer some respite – to recharge their batteries and do the things they can’t easily do as a full-time carer

Recover and rehabilitate – with the shorter term support needed after a hospital stay or bereavement.

Whatever the reason for joining, we find that people who do reap the longer term rewards of a healthier, more rewarding and better quality of life by participating in our community-based groups.

How do I join?

We run day care groups across the region attended by people with a wide range of abilities and disabilities, including physical disability or reduced mobility, mental health needs and learning disabilities. We also provide culturally appropriate support to meet the needs of older people from black and minority ethnic communities.

Joining one of our groups is straightforward.

If you have a personal budget as a result of a needs assessment, you should tell your social services contact which Age UK Wellbeing Group you’d like to attend or contact our Care Services team on 0116 299 2269.

If you would like to join us on a self-funding arrangement, please contact our Care Services team direct on 0116 299 2269.

Regardless of how you intend to fund your care, you can contact us to discuss your options on 0116 299 2269.

When you contact us a member of our Care Services team will discuss your needs, which may include assistance with transport, dietary needs, medication prompting or specific requests for activities. We can then arrange your first visit and introduce you to the team of CRB checked staff and volunteers who run the centre.

An Open Invitation!

It’s always a little daunting to try something new, especially if you’re doing it on your own! So, we’d like to invite you to visit your local wellbeing group to meet us and see first hand the kind of things you’d be doing if you joined us. If you want to bring a friend or family member with you too, just let us know.

East West Community Centre Limited

East West Community Centre Limited (formerly East West Community Project) was founded in 1985 with the purpose of serving the elderly and frail members of the community in Leicestershire. East West Community Centre is situated on Wilberforce Road – off Narborough Road, Leicester in the West End area. This purpose built building was funded by Leicester City Challenge in 1995 as our services expanded. We are a dynamic organisation with a forward looking outlook and are prepared to innovate and adapt to ever-changing needs, such as personal budget; Choose My Support; individual based care plan. Our organisation recognises the need to provide a safe, attractive and inspiring environment which will promote a decent, happy and fulfilling life for the elderly.

This will help to draw the service users out of isolation and develop confidence and their self-esteem. As a result it will create an enabling atmosphere which will develop independence. As we are a not-for-profit organisation (soon to become charity) we place more emphasis on the caring aspect of our work rather than being profit-driven. Our main aim is to provide services to the community which will help in improving the quality of life. We are able to achieve these aims in partnership with the local authorities such as Leicester City Council and Leicestershire County Council through our core activities: Day Care, Meals on Wheels, Luncheon Club and Sitting Services.

Just to give a snap shot of some of our other activities: Yoga Classes, Exercises for the Elderly, Over 55 Women Group, Grow Green ~project ESOL classes for the elderly, etc. The Centre also has links with local Councillors, Members of Parliament, Leicestershire Constabulary, Voluntary Action and the Leicestershire Confederation of Indian Organization. Along with South Field College we did in-house courses such as Food Hygiene, Health and Safety and First Aid. Our building has a spacious hall that can seat up to 150 people and kitchen facilities including a commercial kitchen that can cater for up to 500 guests. In addition, there are also Training and Conference rooms with conferencing facilities such as a white board, Screen, OHP, Projectors, etc.

These can be hired out to groups or individuals for private functions at a reasonable rate; which compares well with other similar (outside) facilities with the exception that we are able to give a greater choice with respect to booking times. We are open 7 days a week. We also have Changing Places (Hoist Facilities) available in our building. We have several groups that use our premises on a regular basis, just to name few: Age Uk, Mosaic Shaping Disability Services, Leicester College, Leicester City Council, Co-operative Association, Leicester Landlord Association, Hare Ram Hare Krishna and Sathya Sai Baba Centre, Leicester. The centre has parking spaces for disabled people and there is also off-street parking Telephone Number: 0116 255 0575

East West Community Centre Day Care Centre – Community Opportunities

East West Day Centre was established in 1995 to provide Day Care services to the elderly and frail from the local community five days a week. We offer care to elderly clients suffering from a disability and our service acts as a means of bringing someone out of isolation and loneliness and thereby promoting mental health, as a preventative measure.

We are under Leicester City Council framework contract as their Provider. Our Day Care Centre is centred around a warm, friendly and caring atmosphere and at the same time it is reassuring to have well qualified staff in attendance. Our services are built around the choices and needs of the individual service user which is of paramount importance. We aim to be as flexible as possible to meet individual care needs. We offer carer support and relief from them continuously having to give their time to others and to indulge themselves for a change.

We do recognise that carers face health risks that present themselves in the very nature of the work, such as stress being major factor. Carers can get support and respite whilst their client/family member is also looked after by us at the same time. We also have Changing places (Hoist facilities). We do give active support to those seeking advice and a chance to engage with others and to offer many stimulating activities such as:

  • Day trips and Picnics including trips to temples parks seaside

East West Community Centre Luncheon club

East West Luncheon club started in 1985 to serve the needs of the local community who may wish to enjoy a healthy nutritious home cooked meal at the same time as attending a social occasion for themselves. We prepare freshly cooked vegetarian meals which are served piping hot at 12.30 pm from Tuesday and Wednesday.

We especially cater for those with special dietary needs or preferences such as Jain, mild, low salt and soft meals, to name a few. Our charges are modest and start from £4.75. As the name suggests our club very much performs a social function. It is a meeting point for the elderly to come in contact with those who share similar interests with members of the local community to exchange ideas and to socialise.

We have become part of the community which includes many from religious and traditional backgrounds although not exclusively so. Together, we celebrate many religious festivals such as Diwali, Eid, Vaisakhi, Christmas and the New Year. We also invite speakers from local NHS to talk on various health-related topics such as Stroke, Heart diseases, Diabetes, etc. In addition to this we have members from Fire and Ambulance services to provide talks on various subjects such as Health & Safety at home and also benefit advice.

We appreciate the value of Carers to our community and give them the opportunity to have a break by providing a lunch, to meet others with a similar background and to provide lunch to the client or family member whom they are looking after. Anyone who may wish to become part of our Lunch club can apply to do so on a personal basis or alternatively, through their respective carers. Health professionals or Social workers may also make referrals.

Our staff serve all meals in a warm and conducive atmosphere. Transport is also provided where needed. To find out more information about our Luncheon Clubs and to book a place, please contact us. Eyres Monsell Adult Inclusion Provision (EMAIP)

Eyres Monsell Adult inclusion project is different to a mainstream youth work provision.

One would be attending the weekly sessions (Tuesdays) to help the young adults gain more independence and develop their day-to-day life skills.

Once a month we aim to be going on a trip that is age appropriate for the group and introducing them to socialising in an adult environment, whilst still providing them with support. Our adult inclusion group will enable members to make new friendship groups as well as providing a social network group on a secure platform that is monitored by the staff team. This will enable them to build on their self-confidence, self-esteem and help them identify when to take healthy risks that would benefit them.

We have also identified a lack of work experience opportunities for young adults. We aim to be able to offer opportunities at the centre for young adults who wish to gain work experience. This could involve working in our community pantry shop and making up food parcels for members of the community.

Eyres Monsell Club for Young People – Inclusion Group

We provide activities for young people with additional needs such as; Downs syndrome, Autism and Asperger’s. The project provides youth club sessions twice a week. These sessions provide opportunities to socialise and have fun with other young people in a safe and nurturing environment. The activities we deliver will encourage life skills such as cookery, gardening, fitness and essential social skills.

We provide young people with informal education opportunities, alongside arts and crafts, sports, games, dance workshops, discussions and IT. The youth centre is a safe and stimulating place for young people with additional needs, with well trained staff providing support at all times. As a result of these sessions young people develop self-esteem and self-confidence and new life skills that they can then transfer to their everyday lives.

Visit the https://www.eyresmonsellcyp.co.uk/ Eyres Monsell Club for Young People website for more information, including details of our services and activities.

The garden has developed greatly and is now a TCV Green Gym, receiving additional funding to have a staff member supporting it to become a space for local people to connect and spend time outdoors, as well as producing fresh fruit and vegetables. There are also weekend family sessions and the project is working with the local GP surgery, which refers people with mental health problems to weekly adult sessions in the garden.
