World Mental Health Day: Friday 10 October 2025
Friday 10 October is World Mental Health Day. It’s a reminder of the importance of good mental health and the need to prioritise mental wellbeing. The theme for 2025 is access to services and it is an opportunity to highlight the work of some services supportive of mental health in Leicester.
In Leicester Mental Health Friendly Places are community-based organisations where people have received training and resources to encourage people to be able to speak up and seek help to support their mental wellbeing. There are Mental Health Friendly Places all over Leicester, to find one near you see our website.
Organisations in Leicester are marking this year’s World Mental Health Day with several events and activities to raise awareness of the range of support available for people’s mental health and wellbeing.
On 10 October there are events at the Peepul Centre and Jamilla’s Legacy focusing on free health checks and screening, information about services available in the local community as well as support from Leicester City Council and Leicestershire Partnership Trust.
Dr Santosh Bhanot, Director and Head of Health at the Peepul Centre explained:
“We’ve brought together the local health experts, organisations and voluntary sector partners to let the public know about different health topics and what’s available for them. As well as expert guidance, the community can benefit from free on-the-spot health checks and screenings, helping to make wellbeing more accessible to all.”
Jamila’s Legacy, are hosting a drop in event from 2-5pm at Thurnby Lodge on Thurncourt Road where, as well as mental health and wellbeing support, they will be offering free blood pressure checks with Vitality Pharmacy. Rehana Sidat, said:
“This event is focused on showing lcal residents what support is out there for their physical and mental health. We have lots of partners such as Age UK, Clockwise Credit Union and Freedom4Girls coming to showcase their service. We look forward to welcoming people on the day and helping them out with whatever they need.”
Councillor Vi Dempster said:
“World Mental Health Day is a great time to encourage people to speak about their mental wellbeing. Mental Health Friendly Places and other local services are working hard to improve people’s mental health, their quality of life and coping with adversity. Engaging with services can help people to stay connected and gain social confidence.”
