Walk Volunteers

Volunteering

Live Well Leicester recognises the vital contribution volunteers make in assisting and delivering in the Live Well Walk More programme.

We are looking for Walk Volunteers to lead and assist our group walks in Leicester for the community. These group walks are short (30 – 90 minutes) at a steady to moderate pace and suitable for most abilities. Walks include anything from city streets to green spaces and waterways. As a Walk Volunteer you will inspire participants by sharing your enthusiasm for walking locally within Leicester.

What you will be doing

  • Walk volunteers will check out the designated route in advance, to familiarise themselves with the route and the risk assessment (both will be provided).
  • Walk volunteers will welcome participants to the walk and provide a short intro/safety briefing at the start.
  • Assist participants in completing the registration form and other paperwork.
  • Lead or back-mark the walk, while complying with health and safety requirements.
  • Talk to participants during the walk to create a sociable, enjoyable walk experience.
  • Ensure all essential paperwork is handed in to staff after each walk.

The skills you need

  • Good verbal communication skills and happy to interact face-to-face.
  • Enthusiastic about walking and keen to share this with others.
  • Empathic, open-minded and non-judgemental.
  • Understanding of the need for confidentiality.
  • Able to follow simple route descriptions/maps and confident to find (navigate) your way around based on this information.
  • Willing to travel to walks in different parts of the city (all our walks are accessible by public transport)
